The headless ghost rode 'cross the meadow,
On fiery steed transversed the lea,
And yelled: "Someone's half-inched me titfer! (1)

Bring back, bring back,
Oh bring back my bonnet to me.

Those words in a sepulchral tone,
When all that he had 'bove the collar
A half-inch of severed backbone.

Oh bring back my barnet to me... etc. (2)

A face that's cut off 'neath the jaw,
In sympathy cries out the slogan
In voice high-pitched, strident and raw:

"Bring back, bring back,
Oh bring back my body to me... etc

And while I've been writing this missive,
Some villain, well dosed up on scotch,
Has run off with my darling missus,
Along with my pet from its hutch.

Bring back, bring back,
Oh bring back my coney to me, to me,
And bring back, bring back,
And bring too, my honey with thee.
